MEET THE GIRLS
GEMMA
A newly qualified solicitor, Gemma has her shit together. She’s known the girls forever and understands their complex group dynamic. She sorts things out for a living and takes control of the group’s situations, as she always has done since school. Unlike the rest of the girls, Gemma has a life outside their friend group. Her circle of friends includes friends from university, work, her netball team, her flatmates. She doesn’t need to have a ‘best’ friend, and observes the codependency of the others from a safe distance.
CASS
Cass works in insurance, but in a fun, girly corporate way, and she won’t talk your ear off about it on a night out. She’s there for the salary and is intimidatingly good at her job, but it in no way defines her. She’ll be at the club all weekend and still be in the office ready to go at 8am on Monday. All her colleagues simultaneously fear her and want to be her. She’s always been closest with Adèle, who she lives with, and isn’t afraid to pick a fight and stand up for people if necessary, especially if that person won’t stand up for themselves.
ISY
Isy is the only one of the group who still lives at home with her parents, who she’s very close with. She works as a barista in a museum cafe and has never really found her thing. She never lived up to her academic highs at school, and seemingly peaked at GCSE. She observes the other girls rather than throwing herself into things and really finding out who she is. She puts Katie on a pedestal, but she doesn’t have a ‘person’ in the group. Unlike Gemma, she’s very insecure with not being fully knitted into the group and resents some of the closer relationships that have emerged.
ADÈLE
Adèle quietly has her life together. She’s in her last year of training as a physiotherapist and specialises in women’s health physio, but she’s not convinced any of the others really know what she does for work. She’s more reserved and will let Cass fight her battles for her, but she can absolutely push back when needed and has some very strong opinions. Once she gets an idea in her head, she fixates to the point of obsession. She loves a true crime podcast.
KATIE
Katie just seems to go with the flow, she likes the easy life. She works in PR because her mum works in PR. She wears green because people say she looks good in green. She’s always gotten caught up in what Sarah wants to do and wants to be and struggles to see herself as someone separate from her. In reality, she does have thoughts and desires of her own, but she keeps those strictly under the surface so as not to rock the boat and jeopardise her relationship with the group and Sarah.
SARAH
Sarah has always done what Sarah wants to do. She’s the only one of them who can keep up with Cass on a night out, but they’re also the two who clash the most. Like Gemma, she understands the intricacies of the group and their history. Unlike Gemma, she often uses that knowledge to make sly comments at other people’s expense, prodding at past hurts or secrets. Her parents regularly feature on the list of the richest people in the UK. She works as a receptionist at a post-production house not because she needs to, but because she likes the aesthetic.
